ABO medal to Burger M J W C van Dijk who served in the Pretoria Commando.

Marthinus van Dijk was 76 when he applied for his ABO medal and his memory was not all that good because his Vorm “B” contains a number of contradictions as far as dates are concerned.

He stated that he was taken PoW in June 1900, but the PoW Register reveals that he was captured on 25 April 1901 at Secocoenisberg with 37 other Burgers and sent to India. This was during the “clearing operations” by LtCol Pulteney’s column northwards towards the town of Roos Senekal in the Eastern Transvaal.
