ANTIQUE EARLY 1900's METAL ACETYLENE / CARBIDE MINING LAMP  - SCREW TIGHT SWING HANDLE

DUE TO COMPLETE UNFAMILIARITY WITH THIS FORM OF ITEM I AM UNFORTUNATELY UNABLE TO DESCRIBED ITS PURPOSE ETC EXCEPT TO SAY THAT COMPARISONS ON THE WORLDWIDE WEB SHOW THAT ALL OF ITS PARTS ARE PRESENT AND DO FUNCTION ETC

THE ITEM IS AN ANTIQUE EARLY 1900's METAL CARBIDE MINING LAMP AND APPEARS TO BE OF FRENCH DESIGN FROM THE REGION OF ARRAS WHICH WAS ONE OF TWO MAJOR PRODUCERS OF THESE ITEMS (THE OTHER GERMANY).    THESE TYPES OF LAMPS WERE ALLEGEDLY USED IN THE EARLY COAL MINES AND CALCIUM CARBIDE PLACED WITHIN THE BOTTOM CONTAINER WITH WATER IN THE TOP.   THE WATER THEN BEGINS DRIPPING FROM THE TOP CONTAINER INTO THE CARBIDE AT THE BOTTOM, PRODUCING ACETYLENE GAS WHICH LIGHTS UP

STAMPS/MARKS ETC : BOTH TOP AND LOWER HALVES OF THE ITEM ARE IMPRESSED WITH NUMBERS

CONDITION : AGE RELATED WEAR AND SIGNS OF AGE BUT NO DENTS, BREAKAGES OR DAMAGES ETC

SIZE : 23cm HEIGHT WITH HANDLE UP.....16cm HEIGHT OF CANISTER.....9.6cm DIAMETER OF BASE
