Adelio Zagni Zeelie, also known as AZ Zeelie, was born in 1911. He studied fine art at the Brera Academy in Milan, Italy, where he learned mural painting. In addition, he gained restoration, gilding, and furniture painting skills at his family business. Notably, his family played a part in the post-Second World War restoration of the La Scala Opera House in Milan. Zeelie later relocated to South Africa, where he applied his expertise in furniture and antique restoration, in addition to creating murals and canvas works.
