BENIN NIGERIA BRONZE MUSICIAN STATUE #2
The Benin Bronzes are a group of more than a thousand commemorative metal plaques and sculptures that decorated the royal palace of the Benin Kingdom in southern Nigeria.ￂﾠ Today, it is clear that the bronzes were made in Benin from an indigenous culture.
The metal pieces were made using lost-wax casting and are considered among the best sculptures made using this molding which is necessarily destroyed as part of the casting process.
The Benin Kingdom was strong throughout the 15th and 16th Centuries and was located in West Africa bordering what is now Nigeria and Togo. Benin Clans were ruled by a King which was known as the Oba.

This bronze figurine, possibly a musician,ￂﾠ measures 18cms high x 10cms wide x 5cms depth.ￂﾠ It weighs 455 grams.ￂﾠ
