Beautifully observed and modelled bust by M.T. Mhlongo. Themba Mhlongo started modelling with clay as a young man, concentrating mainly on cattle and other animal shapes. These were made on an intimate scale. He later diversified his approach to sculpture by trying his hand at carving in wood. South African - Zulu Artist - who later became a Lay Preacher and studied to become a Healer - Examples of his work are in the Campbell Smith Collection - Tatham Art Gallery - Pietermaritzburg - Hand Crafted from Locally Resourced Clay and Fired in the Traditional Way in a Pit using dried Aloe Leaves - in Good Condition
