AFRICAN MILITARY/POLICE SPEAR; GOVERNMENT ISSUE, Circa 1920's.
Issued to native constables in the 1920s and to soldiers of the South African Native Military Corps were issued with assegais instead of rifles. Neither the point, nor the blade are sharp. The haft is a wood turning with a flared butt. The haft has a London oiled finish. The butt cap is steel and attached with a single screw. There is a groove in the butt. When the spear is at shoulder arms your thumb fits squarely into this groove. Then not only is your fore arm parallel to the deck, all blades in the rank and file are turned at the same angle. The blade is forged steel and has cross pins that appear to hold the blade tang in the haft. There are some numbers and marking on the steel please refer to pictures. I do combined shipping so it will benefit you to buy more than one item at a time.
Please note that post is done once a week (Monday’s or Friday’s) for feasibility reasons.
We make use of a small rural post office, which only dispatches three times a week.
No parcel will be sent unless the full postage is paid.
Parcels are sent via SAPO, counter to counter within South Africa.
Your item will be posted ASAP within 7days after payment has clearance & tracking number will follow by the 8th day.
Buyer may request, Insured Parcel, Registered Mail, Speed Services or Courier Service at different costs. Please request a quote in advance. Insured parcels cover loss and not damage.
I pack very well, however I will NOT be held responsible for breakages or loss of items once the goods have been shipped. The Seller accepts no responsibility and is hereby indemnified against any loss or damage to items, after a parcel has been handed in at SAPO or to a courier for shipping.
