Ficus is a genus of about 800 species of woody trees, shrubs and vines in the family Moraceae, native throughout the tropics with a few species extending into the warm temperate zone.

The African rock fig has the ability to split rocks and there for makes the perfect subject for root over rock style bonsai. It works very well on a rockery or rock garden, if the space allows it. Notice in the picture above, how this one is growing in the crevice of two rocks.
