Volume 2- deals exclusively with Natal.The arrival of the Trek of Jacobs and Jacobus Uys and the mission sent out by Retief to Natal are discussed in detail. Then follow the massacre of Umkungunhlovu, the Zulu onslaught, battle of Italeni, the battle of the Tugela, etc. The British Government Proclamation and the arrival of Andries Pretorius conclude this part. The next part, in ten chapters deals with the Republic of Natal. It describes the campaign of the Win-Commando Major Charter's occupation of Port Natal and Winburg, the second seizure of Port Natal, Captain Smith's march, Battle of Durban Bay and the defeat of Pretorius.
