Africana! Ghana - Akan/Ashanti - Mrammou - Bronze Goldweight  - Man holding his Head

Akan/Ashanti Bronze Goldweight from Ghana, Africa. Rare African Metal Sculpture / Figurine. Antique Mrammou. In West Africa, these bronze figures (mrammou) were essential tools for trade until the late 19th century / early 20th century. Each one was different and depicted proverbs and symbols that held cultural significance in Akan culture. The status of a man was significantly enhanced by owning a large collection of mrammou. They were given as wedding gifts, so that a groom would be able to enter the merchant trade respectably and successfully.
