He resigned in 2001 in protest at the government's refusal to allow an unfettered investigation into the £5bn arms deal and   deals also with his disillusionment with the   corruption, the mishandling of the AIDS pandemic, and the ANC’s disregard of ethics as well as South Africa's uncertain future.
