The Zata Brothers were born and raised in Zimbabwe. There are 6 brothers, and 5 of them are artists - Aggrey, Abel, Namo, Collins and Kudzai.
Their father passed away in December 2002, and was an artist in his own right. Father Zata taught all his children the art of sculpture. Their mother is a potter.
Aggrey was the first of the brothers to discover the beauty in driftwood carving, and that remains his speciality. Aggrey began his career as a sculptor in 1989.
Aggrey is inspired by the shapes found in the distorted driftwood.
The driftwood is Ozoroa Reticula wood. The roots of this tree are used in traditional medicine as a digestive.
Aggreys ambition is to exhibit his sculptures internationally and promote the art of driftwood sculpture.
