Agita Paint-On 50g is a residual fly bait insecticide developed by Elanco for controlling adult flies in approved agricultural and industrial buildings. Also known as Agita 10 WG Fly Bait, this water-dispersible formulation combines thiamethoxam with a fly-attracting pheromone to help control flies where they gather.
Agita Paint-On 50g is suitable for targeted use in stables, poultry houses, pigsties, dairies and other approved farm buildings. It can be applied as a paint-on treatment or low-pressure spray according to the South African manufacturer's directions.
Elanco South Africa specifies approximately 5 weeks (35 days) of residual activity, although results can vary depending on environmental conditions and application.
Agita combines an insecticide with a fly-attracting compound.
Thiamethoxam is a neonicotinoid insecticide belonging to Insecticide Group 4A.
It acts on the nervous system of susceptible insects and provides contact and stomach insecticidal activity.
(Z)-9-Tricosene is a house fly pheromone used to help attract flies to the treated bait.
The attractant encourages flies to visit treated areas, where they may come into contact with or ingest the insecticide.
The South African registration includes adult fly control in suitable agricultural and industrial buildings, such as:
Application should target appropriate areas where flies gather, such as selected walls, ceilings, window frames and supporting posts.
Important: Apply only where children, pets, livestock and other animals cannot reach or contact the treated surfaces.
Agita is not intended for direct application to animals, grazing areas, household pets or animal bedding.
Elanco South Africa provides two methods for adult fly control.
Mix 50g Agita 10 WG with 40ml lukewarm water.
Thoroughly mix until a brushable suspension is obtained.
Stir the mixture regularly during application.
Apply with a suitable brush to selected, relatively dust-free surfaces where flies gather.
The South African label indicates that 50g is sufficient for a building with approximately 20m² of floor area, corresponding to around 4060m² of wall and ceiling surface.
Only selected fly-resting surfaces should be treated, not the entire wall and ceiling area.
Where direct application is unsuitable, the label allows treatment of appropriate suspended strips, provided these are placed completely out of reach of animals and children.
Mix 50g Agita 10 WG with 400ml water.
Thoroughly mix the suspension and apply with a suitable low-pressure sprayer to selected fly-resting surfaces.
Avoid areas that people, animals or pets routinely touch, and prevent contamination of drinking water, feed and food-contact surfaces.
Always consult the label supplied with your particular pack for the complete application directions.
Do not store prepared mixtures for later use.
According to Elanco South Africa, Agita 10 WG provides a residual effect of approximately 5 weeks, equivalent to 35 days.
Actual performance depends on factors including:
Repeat treatment only as required and in accordance with the registered label.
Agita 10 WG is also registered for controlling litter beetles (Alphitobius diaperinus) in poultry houses.
The South African product information specifies separate band-spray and feed-bait application methods for this purpose.
These litter beetle directions are different from the ordinary adult fly-control instructions.
Only use the poultry-house methods exactly as specified on the registered label. Do not add Agita to normal livestock or poultry feed outside its explicitly approved application method.
Agita Paint-On 50g works best as part of a broader insect-management programme.
Good manure management, regular cleaning, moisture control and reducing breeding sites are important measures for reducing fly populations.
Agita is an environmental insecticide and should not be applied directly to animals.
