AK 47 - Portuguese Army M64 Lizard Camo Chest Webbing

Key Units and Groups Associated with the Pattern

The M1964 Portuguese lizard pattern was widely adopted after Portugal's colonial rule ended in 1975:

  • The 32nd Battalion (Buffalo Battalion) was an elite SADF unit composed mainly of Portuguese-speaking Angolans, many of whom were former FNLA members. They were recognized for their use of Portuguese lizard camouflage and AK-47 rifles, rather than the standard SADF-issued R4, R5, or R6 assault weapons.
  • South African Special Forces (Recces), the SADF's Reconnaissance Commandos, also adopted this camouflage pattern during covert operations to blend with local forces and carried AK-47 assault weapons. Guerrilla groups such as SWAPO and insurgents in Namibia, Angola (including UNITA), and Mozambique often wore surplus Portuguese lizard uniforms.
  • Chest Webbing consists of 1 side pouch for a cleaning kit / 3 x pouches to accommodate 3 x AK 47 Magazines and 2 Grenade pouches
  • Condition - Used but in excellent condition and collectors item
