Albizia tanganyicensis Seeds

Paper Bark Albizia

Albizia is a genus of about 150 species of mostly fast-growing subtropical and tropical trees and shrubs in the Subfamily Mimosoideae of the legume family, Fabaceae. The genus is pantropical, occurring in Asia, Africa, Madagascar, Central, South, and southern North America and Australia, but mostly in the Old World tropics. Albizia tanganyicensis is a South African indigenous species from the Limpopo and North West Provinces. It is commonly known as Fever Tree, Sneezewood, Paper Bark, Paperbark False Thorn, Paper-barked False-thorn or Paper-barked Tree in English and Koorsboom, Papierbas, Papierbasvalsdoring, Papierbas-valsdoring and Papierboom in Afrikaans. It grows into a 10 meter tall tree with smooth pearly bark with thin red papery peel and light green leaves. From spring to summer it bears fluffy heads of creamy-white flowers. This is an attractive garden tree.
