1 x Albuca batteniana bulb

* see third picture for approximate size

Albuca batteniana, is a distinctive bulbous plant native to the eastern regions of South Africa, particularly in grassland and rocky habitats where it experiences seasonal rainfall. It belongs to a group of geophytic plants adapted to survive periods of drought by retreating into an underground bulb.

This species produces a rosette of narrow, strap-like leaves that may be slightly arching or upright, giving the plant a neat yet natural appearance. During its flowering season, it sends up a tall, slender flower spike bearing numerous small, nodding flowers. The blooms are typically greenish to yellow with subtle striping, and they have a delicate, understated beauty compared to more brightly coloured flowering plants. Very similiar to Albuca nelsonii and it mainly varies in that it leans as it grows, eventually forming a rather elongated bulb that stretches along the ground. Grows well on stablized low gradient hill, although with sufficient support, like mesh,  you could attach it to a very steep slope

Albuca batteniana is well adapted to seasonal climates, with active growth during favourable conditions and dormancy during dry or colder periods. Like many bulbous plants, it stores energy in its bulb, allowing it to survive in environments with irregular rainfall. It can form small clumps over time as offsets develop.

Growing Albuca batteniana requires well-drained soil, preferably sandy or loamy, and a position in full sun to light shade. Watering should be moderate during its active growth phase but reduced significantly during dormancy to prevent bulb rot. It can tolerate mild frost but should be protected from severe cold and excessive moisture. With the right conditions, it becomes a reliable and interesting addition to a collection of bulbous or drought-tolerant plants. Incredibly tough and near impossible to kill, except with extreme cold
