Info: Almost Forgotten, Never Told : A book of people and places, dramas and adventures along the South African coast, with a few voyages into deeper waters."This book is all anecdotes (backed up with historical research where possible) that the author has collected about Table Bay. The first third of the book is all about historical ship wrecks on the Cape, and the aftermath of rescuing crew and passengers and cargo (or not), and later salvage attempts. Theres a whole chapter on the habits of sea rats, which
was fascinating. Greens writing is beautiful and I feel the stories would be lost to history if he hadnt meticulously collected them. His books are out of print and so the stories may be lost eventually anyway." Good Reads.
Lawrence George Green was a South African journalist and author. He ranks as one of the most prolific writers to come out of Africa. He published on average a book a year between 1933 and 1972, other than the World War 2 years where his duties with the Royal and South African Air Force in north Africa impacted on his free time. In all, he produced 34 books (including a guide for writers), a number of stories for foreign and local magazines and many newspaper articles and letters.
