Commonly known as: Alocasia Bambino XL, African Mask Plant

Botanical name: Alocasia × amazonica (Bambino)

Alocasia Bambino XL is all about bold contrast. Its deep green, arrow-shaped leaves are etched with striking white veins that look almost too perfect to be real. It's ideal for brightening up indoor spaces with good light, and thanks to its upright growth and strong shape, it adds structure to a room the way few plants can. While it may look exotic, it's not overly fussy when given the right conditions bright, indirect light and a bit of humidity will keep it looking sharp.

This isn't the kind of plant you hide in a corner. Give it space to shine, and it'll turn heads.

Alocasia Bambino XL Care Guide

🌿 Light

Loves bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, so keep it near a window with filtered light or under a sheer curtain.

💧 Water

Keep the soil lightly moist but never soggy. Allow the top 23cm to dry out between waterings. Avoid letting it sit in water, especially during winter when it slows down.

🌱 Soil & Repotting

Prefers a chunky, well-draining mix. For optimal drainage and healthy roots, you can use our premixed Aroid Mix, or you can create your own potting mix using Barks Unlimited Potting Soil combined with Perlite. When repotting, use a slightly larger pot and add Bark Chips to boost airflow around the roots.

🌡 Temperature & Humidity

Thrives in temperatures between 1826°C. It enjoys higher humidity, so mist it regularly, group it with other plants, or use a pebble tray to increase moisture in the air.

🌸 Feeding

Feed every 46 weeks in the growing season (spring to early autumn) with a Controlled Release Fertiliser or Organic Fertiliser to support strong growth and healthy leaves.

🐛 Pests & Problems

Look out for spider mites and mealybugs. Regularly wiping down the leaves helps prevent pests. If needed, treat with an insecticidal spray and ensure the plant has good air circulation.
