The Alocasia Silver Dragon is a real gem for plant lovers. Its thick, silver-toned leaves with dramatic dark veins give it a unique, almost fantasy-like look. Compact yet striking, it's the kind of plant that stands out in any collection.
Pot size 14cm.
Commonly known as: Silver Dragon Alocasia
Botanical name: Alocasia baginda 'Silver Dragon'
The Alocasia Silver Dragon is part of the highly sought-after Jewel Alocasia group, prized for its compact size and extraordinary foliage. Its leaves are thick, textured, and silvery in colour, with deep green veins that give them a scale-like appearance almost like dragon skin, which is how it earned its name. Unlike larger Alocasia varieties, the Silver Dragon stays relatively small, making it an excellent choice for tabletops, shelves, or as a feature in mixed plant displays.
Light:
Place your Alocasia in bright, indirect light. It doesn't enjoy direct sun, which can scorch its delicate leaves, but it also won't thrive in very low light.
💧 Watering:
This Alocasia prefers consistently moist soil. Water when the top 23cm feels dry, but avoid waterlogging as the roots are sensitive to rot. Always ensure the pot drains freely.
🌡 Temperature & Humidity:
The Silver Dragon loves warmth between 1827°C and prefers higher humidity. Kitchens, bathrooms, or areas with a humidifier are ideal spots. In drier months, a pebble tray can help.
🪴 Soil & Repotting: For strong root health, plant in our Aroid Mix, or make your own using Barks Unlimited Potting Soil with Perlite. Add Bark Chips when repotting to keep the soil airy. Repot every 12 years or when roots begin to circle the pot.
🍃 Fertiliser:
Feed monthly in spring and summer with Controlled Release Fertiliser or boost with Organic Fertiliser to encourage strong new growth and vibrant foliage.
🐛 Pests:
May attract spider mites, mealybugs, or aphids if stressed. Wipe leaves clean and treat with insecticidal spray at the first signs of pests.
Compact but dramatic, the Alocasia Silver Dragon is perfect if you're looking for a rare plant with serious personality that doesn't take up much space.
