10 x Aloe arborescens seeds

The aloe arborescens, Aloe arborescens, is a large, multi-headed succulent native to mountainous and coastal regions of southern Africa, including South Africa, Mozambique, and Malawi. It is typically found on rocky slopes and cliff faces, where it grows in well-drained soils and endures hot, dry conditions as well as seasonal rainfall.

This species forms a sprawling, shrubby structure with multiple rosettes of long, narrow, serrated leaves that are green to bluish-green in colour. The leaves are arranged in dense clusters at the ends of branching stems, giving the plant a dramatic, architectural appearance. In winter, it produces tall, upright flower spikes bearing dense clusters of tubular, fiery orange to red flowers that are highly attractive to birds, especially sunbirds.

Aloe arborescens is valued for its ornamental beauty, drought tolerance, and ecological importance. It provides nectar for pollinators during the cooler months when fewer other plants are in bloom, making it an important seasonal resource. It is also widely used in landscaping for hedging, screening, and rock gardens due to its vigorous growth and resilience.

Growing Aloe arborescens is relatively easy in warm, dry climates. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil, especially sandy or rocky substrates. It is highly drought-tolerant once established and should be watered sparingly to prevent root rot. It can tolerate light frost but performs best in frost-free or mild winter regions. With minimal care, it develops into a striking, long-lived architectural shrub that produces reliable winter colour.
