Aloe modesta is a South African endemic species from the KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga Provinces where it can be found growing in the Dullstroom and Wakkerstroom districts in Mpumalanga and also possibly occurs near Vryheid in KwaZulu-Natal. It has 30 cm long grasslike leaves with minutely toothed margins. It is the only sweetly scented aloe in Africa and during summer it bears small yellowish-green flowers.
