Aloe vanbalenii is very special in colour. The flowers are yellow and the leaves of the rosette are a yellow-green with rusty red borders and shading. In full sun the leaves turn deep red. This stemless aloe plants divide into clumps. The flowering time is mid-winter. The long leaves make a graceful twist which gives the impression the rosettes are locked into a unit. It is a relative large plant. Without a stem it is not high, but more than 1 meter across. The plant can withstand frost. This is another aloe plant that adjusts easy to winter rain.
