Alstroemeria commonly called Inca Lily, Peruvian Lily or Lily of the Incas, is a South American genus of about 120 species of mostly bulbous flowering plants. The genus is placed in the Alstroemeriaceae family. Almost all of the species are restricted to one of two distinct centers of diversity, one in central Chile, the other in eastern Brazil. Species of Alstroemeria from Chile are winter-growing plants while those of Brazil are summer-growing.

All are long-lived perennials except Alstroemeria graminea, a diminutive annual from the Atacama Desert of Chile.

Alstroemeria psittacina, commonly known as Inca Lily, Parrot Flower, Parrot Lily, Peruvian Lily, Lily of the Incas, Princess Lily. Also known as Alstroemeria pulchella, this species is native to Brazil and has feathery trumpet shaped flowers that are crimson dark red marked with green and blotched dark purple. This is an easy plant to grow. It will go dormant in winter when the leaves die back. During this time a layer of mulch on top of the soil will protect the tubers from excessive cold and frost. This is a summer growing species and seeds should be sown during spring. These gorgeous blossoms make excellent cut flowers, often lasting 2 weeks in a vase. In the garden or in pots outside the flowers attract birds to the garden.
