OK, if you shave in ANY way, whether it is with a double edge razor, single edge razor, cartridge type razor and God forbid, a plastic razor, an Alum shaving stone is essential to take care of your face afterwards.

Any shave leaves the skin a bit tender and there will always be little nicks & cuts. This is where Alum plays an important role:

1) It has astringent properties
2) It has disinfectant properties
3) It has healing properties.

So, when using alum after a shave, your skin will be tighter and that would stop small nick bleeding. With it's disinfectant properties, no cuts or nicks would become infectious. And with it's healing properties, you would not end up with any pimples and sores.

An absolute MUST for any shaver. A block goes a long, long way and it would probably last you for a year or more.
