Sweet Alyssum flowers are very fragrant and attract insects like butterflies and bees. Because of its low growth which resembles a "carpet of snow", the plant is often utilized in rock gardens and hides the stocks and roots of neighboring plants. This is a great plant for rockery and edging. Although Sweet Alyssum reseeds very easily, many gardeners still cut back the plantings after first bloom to encourage a second flush of bloom. They will ususally be back in bloom in one or two weeks. In milder climates it can bloom year-round. We recommend sowing in early Spring or after the last frost if in Zones 1-6 and sow in both early Spring as well as Fall if in Zones 7-11 (reference USDA Plant Hardiness Map). Tip: since the seeds are so small it is recommended that one mixes sand to more evenly broadcast/spread these seeds.
