Please read the entire description as there's a lot of items included in this lot with great history.

This collection of medals and other items belonged to a father (Geoffrey William Evans) and son (Charles Henry Evans)

Geoffrey William Evans served in the Boer War in the Army Service Corps and the First World War in 2 SAI. He made it through the ranks all the way up to Lieutenant. The items in this lot that belonged to him are:

  • QSA medal (With Orange Free State and Cape Colony Bars)
  • KSA medal (with South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902bars) -Please note that the name on both the QSA and KSA was accidently engraved as WG Evans rather than GW Evans, but these are definitely his medals and his records confirm it.
  • British War medal 1914-1918
  • WW1 Victory medal (bilingual type)
  • Miniature Versions of all 4 medals
  • A sterling silver ID bracelet with his name, unit, and force number.

Charles Henry Williams served in the South African Air Force in WW2. On 20 October 1941, he was a Hurricane pilot in 1 Squadron when his plane was downed near Sidi Omar, Libya and taken prisoner for the remainder of the war (Included in this lot is his POW ID tag, very rare). The records dont show how his plane was downed but it seems likely that it was shot down since Sidi Omar was a German Stronghold. The items in this lot that belonged to him are:

  • Africa Service medal
  • British War medal 1939-1945
  • Africa Star
  • 1939-1945 Star
  • Miniatures for all four medals
  • His Prison of War ID tag from Stalag IV B (this is definitely his at it has his POW number and he engraved his name, service name and unit on the back.
  • A sterling Silver ID tag (no chain) with his name and service number and a SAAF emblem (The emblem is possibly made of gold but no guarantees)
  • A bracelet with a silver tag with another gold looking SAAF emblem. On the back it says MB 7.11.1940. Perhaps it was a sweetheart bracelet given to a girlfriend? His records show that he was not married at the time of signing up.

A scan of both the father and the sons service records will be emailed to the winner of this auction.
