Amethyst Cut to Clear Crystal decanter
This simply stunning cut to clear amethyst crystal decanter with its eye-catching deep purple hue and contrasting etched geometric and thumb - out design is an exquisite piece of craftsmanship.
It has a particularly interesting rounded, thumb - cut stopper.
When placed in the sunlight, its vibrant amethyst tones are truly radiant.
It is possibly Bohemian Czech Crystal. It rings clearly when flicked, and although we do not know its exact vintage, it does show signs of age, especially wear at the base. It probably dates to around the late 19th Century to early 20th Century when amethyst crystal and glass tableware was particularly fashionable.
It is unmarked.
It was probably used to serve cordial, claret or liqueur at the finest of soirees and is guaranteed to bring a touch of vintage elegance to any festive gathering or cocktail party.
There are some minor scratches to the surface of the crystal on the body of the decanter , and the stopper also has some scratches, nibbles and signs of age related wear.
There are also some marks on the inside of the neck and a scratch in the surface of the body of the decanter on the side, as depicted in the photos.
The mark on the base is inside the vessel.
The rim is in perfect condition.
None of these flaws detract from the beauty of this piece.
