Spiritual/healing properties:
Amethyst is known for its calming and protective energy, as well as, promoting spiritual growth, intuition, and mental clarity. It may help with stress relief and emotional balance. It is often used in meditation as it is believed to enhance psychic abilities.
Formation:
Amethyst is a variety of quartz that forms in geodes or cavities within volcanic rock. A violet to purple variety of quartz that owes its color to gamma irradiation and the presence of traces of iron built into its crystal lattice. The crystal grows slowly in these cavities as silica-rich water deposits minerals over time.
Cutting & Processing:
Small amethyst pieces are usually broken off from larger geodes. They are either tumbled for a smooth finish or left raw with natural edges. If tumbled, they go through a rock tumbler with abrasives to smooth them out over a few weeks. If raw, they may just be broken, cleaned, and sold as natural specimens.
