 Rare Protective Amulet

This old amulet originates from the Bahuana / Yoruba tribe Democratic Republic of Congo.

I would think it be be made from ivory, but it could be possibly bone. It has cracks from age.

I am not sure how old this amulet is, but would estimate it to be quite old. Please see matchbox for size.

It shows a pregnant woman kneeling with her hands to her ears. It was used as protection for mother and child during pregnancy and childbirth.

From the research that I have done, I have found that these amulets are rare and fetch top prices at some of the renowned auction houses overseas.
