This antique Victorian slipper/nursing chair is in good condition for its age and has minimal age and usage related wear and tear as shown in the pics. There is ornate detailing on the carved backrest and the upholstery is still good on the seat. The chair measures 41cm long x 46cm wide x 90cm high. It is 46cm from the floor to the top of the seat. This amazing chair would be stunning in a ladies parlour or dressing room or bedroom, or even in a living room. The chair could also be re-upholstered to suit your home decor. Please view the pics as they form part of the description.
In Victorian times the nursing chair was a low seated partially upholstered chair. Nursing included caring for children as well as breastfeeding. The low seat of the chair allowed the mother, who would have been wearing a stiff corset, to interact with small children without bending over. This chair form was particularly popular in England and found primarily in upper class homes. The types of wood most frequently used were oak, rosewood or walnut. The chair legs were frequently of a cabriole style or a straight-legged spindle design.
