What a spectacular find ! A worthy addition to a medical professionals collection .
This ladies and gentlemen is a vaporizer , used to heat up water until steam rises to moisten the air when one is ill with the flu or related illness . One site I visited called grandmas advice , advice is that one should only use water and a little sea salt , not medicines or chemicals . A fine invention .
I have had one of these ( that I sold ) and it was dated 1881 . This one is not dated and other sites advise 1900 as date of manufacture .
You be the judge . The only difference between this one and the one I had listed two weeks ago is that the little glass lamp is missing here . See my recently sold items to get the picture .
