This extremely rare slabbed 1892 ZAR 1 pond "Double-Shaft" Kruger Pond with a SANGS VF20 grading is a rare and exciting find. 1892 was the first year that the Kruger Pond was minted and statistics vary as to how many coins were minted in 1892 but around 15 000 are believed to have existed. SANGS grade this coin as VF - 20; some definition of detail, all lettering full and sharp. The Double Shaft as this Pond is commonly known has two shafts on the wagon. The Voortrekker wagon had only a single shaft (disselboom) so two oxen either side of the shaft could be used. Also, this pond had O.S. on the Shoulder of President Kruger which were the initials of Otto Schultz. This Pond was part of the first set of coins that were struck for the ZAR government. They were stuck by the Prussian Mint in Berlin. The errors in the Double Shaft Pond were multiple. The double shaft should have been a single shaft. The wheels of the wagon should have been smaller at the front. The O.S. in Afrikaans means Ox. The wagon was symbolic to the Burghers and they were furious. It is said it nearly cost President Paul Kruger the election. The Pond coins which had not been released were melted down. I have quoted postage for shipping, but we highly recommend that it not be posted. Please view the pics carefully to fully appreciate this extremely rare 1892 Solid gold Kruger 1 Pond coin and to confirm the condition.
