Professor A. F. Hattersley researches the history of how the people lived in South Africa. He describes the entire social scene as it developed through the ages. With 13 colour plates by artists such as Burchell, Bell, Bowler and others, with a fold out colour plate by Langschmidt, of Wale Street, Cape Town, in the 1850's.
