This stunning antique (1854) Victorian hallmarked British sterling silver sauce ladle is in beautiful condition for its age and measures 15cm long x 4.4cm across the bowl. The ladle is hallmarked as follows: The makers mark "M&S" confirms the ladle was made by Marshall & Sons, The Edinburgh Castle Assay mark, the Scottish Thistle standard mark confirming it is sterling silver (925), the date letter "X" confirming the ladle was made in 1854 and the Queen Victoria duty stamp, confirming that sovereign tax was paid on the silver (this mark was only used between 1784 to 1890 and reflected the reigning monarchs head). The sauce ladle weighs 38g. This is a rare find and considering this ladle is 167 years old, it is in incredible condition with absolute minimal age related wear and tear. The ladle has a letter "M" engraved on the handle.
