An original handcoloured lithographic print of 4 Dolphins from the year 1824

 The plate measures 34 x 23 cm. Fine hand colour.

This superb lithograph was made by the esteemed artist Carl Joseph Brodtmann. Brodtmann's plates were noted for their strong detail, accuracy and pleasing composition.

The plate comes from the series 'Naturgeschichte und Abbildungen der Saugethiere' (The Natural History of Mammals) published in 1824.

Heinrich R. Schinz was a prominent physician and professor of Natural History. He also served as curator of the Zurich Natural History Society. Schinz used his stature to publish and further knowledge of the natural world.

Overall in near excellent condition with only light marginal spotting and a small clean marginal tear at the bottom edge.
