Peter Mills was born around the middle of the previous century in Wynberg, Cape Town. He began his schooling in the Cape, before relocating to Johannesburg. He studied teaching at the Johannesburg College of Education and taught for several years before spending some time on an Israeli kibbutz. Returning to South Africa, he moved back to Cape Town and studied art for a year.
After some time spent teaching art in Cape Town, Mills was asked to pioneer a church at George. A decade of pastoral work followed before he returned to teaching. During this period he had taken up watercolour painting as a hobby. He had some lessons with late artist Phil Cloete, took early retirement and devoted himself to watercolour painting. He has participated in many exhibitions to date. Mills is a prolific artist and collections of his art are exhibited worldwide. His style is impressionistic and loose, which comes from many hours with brush in hand.
