The MAX488feature reduced slew-rate drivers that minimize EMI and reduce reflectionscaused by improperly terminated cables, thus allowing error-free datatransmission up to 250kbps. This transceiver draws between 120µA and 500µA ofsupply current when unloaded or fully loaded with disabled drivers. All partsoperate from a single 5V supply. Drivers are short-circuit current limited andare protected against excessive power dissipation by thermal shutdown circuitrythat places the driver outputs into a high-impedance state. The receiver inputhas a fail-safe feature that guarantees a logic-high output if the input is opencircuit.
