Description: Ancient Geometric Era Greek Replica Bronze figurine of The Archer(?). Ref. MA-33
Maker:  Greece, Hand made, sand cast.
Date: 1950-2000
History: The bronze figurine (of an Archer) offered is a replica of similar sculptures found in Ancient Greece during the years 900-700 BC. The Geometric Period is shown by the use of geometric shapes (and some abstract ideas) to create human and animal forms. They are elongated and narrow in their shape. Geometric sculptures were usually small, made from bronze (produced by the lost-wax casting method in sand), but also in terra cotta or ivory. They were often left as offerings at religious shrines or sanctuaries. Horses and large animals portrayed wealth as they were expensive to keep. With regard the human figures, they were simple, linear forms, the torso was usually triangular shaped with long angular legs and rather cylindrical arms. Animal forms were also based to a degree in geometry. Horse figurines were commonly used as offerings to the gods. Their bodies are almost rectangular in shape, slightly pinched in the middle with thin, triangular to rectangular shaped legs. The heads are often arched. However, bulls, deer and birds are also found.
Condition: Very good.
Dimensions: The figurine stands 14 cm high and 8 cm in width and 1.5 cm in thickness.
