Kitchener’s proclamation of December 20, 1900, promising that all burghers who surrendered should be allowed to live with their families in Government laagers, and to return to their homes as soon as the guerrilla warfare was at an end. The Comander-in-Chief’s address (translated into Dutch) and copies of the proclamation were circulated amongst the various commandos, but was not well received, with some emissaries being treated to floggings, and in at least one case, summary execution.
This original proclamation is presented with an original photograph of Field Marshal Lord Roberts’ occupation of Pretoria on 5 June, 1900.
