"Lady Roberts" was the name given to a British 4.7-inch naval gun captured by Boer forces under by General Ben Viljoen during the Boer attack on Helvetia on December 28, 1900. The capture of the gun was a significant morale boost for the Boers, and F.W. Reitz, father of Boer fighter Deneys Reitz, penned a satirical poem about the captured gun, highlighting the Boer's defiance against Lord Roberts and the British. The poem was widely circulated among the Boer commandos, solidifying the gun's place in Boer folklore and resistance.
