Anglo Boer War: Wooden Storing Box for the Mauser Pistol of General Louis Botha

The first picture shows the large size of the box compared to a matchbox.

Inside the box are four items:-

  1. A written declaration by a Captain from the Provost Marshalls Office that “Mr N.J. de Wet has permission to retain in his possession a Mauser Pistol. It is the property of Genl Louis Botha to whom it was given as a keepsake”. It is dated 1 September 1902 (Magistrates Office Pretoria).
  2. A plaque inscribed “Louis Botha Pistool geskenk deur Mnr. J Botha vir beste kompanie in taktiek
  3. A second plaque inscribed “C Komp. 2/Lt. J.L. Pretorius, 1938/39”.
  4. An album published by the Louis Botha Memorial Committee on the occasion of the unveiling of the Louis Botha Monument at Pretoria, on August the 15th 1946.

The current owner told me that he has heard that the pistol itself is kept by the Bloemfontein War Museum, but I cannot confirm this.

Please see the following pictures.

This is a very heavy item and the only shipping option is private pick-up in the Western Cape. (Alternatively you can send your own courier).

I offer a 100% 7-day money back guarantee.
