Animal Sounds Of The Southern African Bush

These sounds were recorded all over Southern Africa, from the vast and dry Namibian expanses to Botswana’s lush and unpopulated wilderness right trough to South Africa’s magnificent wild places.

The sounds of the wild will touch you deeply as you travel to 11 different settings ranging from waterholes to open savanna, mountainous and tropical terrain. These recordings were done with the best available digital equipment, a labor of the love for the last two years that will provide you with over 2 hours of listening pleasure. This “sound picture” will evoke a tapestry of Nature in your mind and will stir your interest in every flick of a tail, every facial expression and the complex messages sent and received through every sound.

This compilation consists of 2 discs, each with its own unique settings and animals.

The 11 settings for these extraordinary recordings include:

·         A night seen with all the drama of Lion, Spotted Hyena and Black-backed Jackal competing for a nocturnal feast. Two of Africa’s smallest owls, the African Scops Owl and Pearl Spotted Owl can distinctly be heard on this recording with Helmeted Guineafowl, Fiery Necked Nightjars and a Spotted Dikkop also lending their voices to the recording.

·         A shallow but wide stream in Botswana where a herd of +/- 50 Buffalo were recorded moving through the water and vegetation. A Long Crested Eagle can be heard perched on top of a tree with Crested Guineafowl scratching for food in the leaf litter. A Blacksmith Plover competes with a Hadeda Ibis for the prize of the noisiest bird in the background.

·         Supple and graceful Cheetahs and bristly Warthogs at a waterhole in South Africa. The Zulu people of South Africa call Warthogs NDLOVU DAWANA – “Little Elephants” – because of their ferocious tusks and generally determined manner of moving around. In the background Yellow Billed-and Ground Hornbill, White Browned-and White Throated Robin, Shelly’s-and Natal Francolin and an Ashy Tit are also heard whiling away this hot African summer day.

·         A group of sociable Red Billed Buffalo Weavers opens this scene in their communal massive nest. It is rutting season, two competing Impala can be heard trying to establish their own breeding herd in an intense clashing of horns. A Red Billed Woodhoopoe calls in the distance, the two Impala has unsettled all the animals. A Blue Wildebeest calf nervously calls for his mother and a Lion’s roar in the distance causes Zebra to scatter in panic.

·         Dawn in the African tropical bush is announced by the Heuglin’s Robin and Shelly’s Francolin. The Mighty roar of a Lion represents an audible assertion of his right to this territory. As a new day unfolds the male Lion announces his presence to the other members of his pride whiles a Bush Squirrel starts chattering excitedly, above a lonesome Monotonous Lark answers.
