Large copper Ankerlicht (from Den Haag, Netherlands). It is a nautical oil-burning anchor lamp with a 360-degree Fresnel glass lens. This model does have a top and a bottom bail, and places on both sides to run rigging ropes through, making it suitable for use as an actual boat's anchor lamp.
The lamp weighs in at just over 5 kg (using a bathroom scale). It stands approx. 50 cm high (excluding the top and bottom handles) and the diameter inside is approx. 240 mm. It is in excellent condition, with no breaks or chips in the lens, and no dents in the copper, though there is some minor spotting from oxidation throughout the exterior of the lamp that does not affect its overall eye-appeal. The wick adjuster and burner have both been used once in recent years, and turn freely, and the wick appears only lightly used.
This would make a wonderful addition to a seafood restaurant, an ocean-side bar, a sea-captain's study, or any other place with a nautical theme, including an actual boat.
Please check the photographs as well. Apparently this item is quite scarce, especially in South Africa.
Because of the size and weight, the Seller prefers collection only, or otherwise the Buyer should arrange for courier him/herself.
