From the author: 'Little is known of the people I have sketched here who came and went through her (Ann) life, and much of the story is fiction given that the known facts would scarcely constitute much more than a chapter. There was an Ann who travelled under the guise of being a boy, but her surname is not known nor is little else about her. A brief list of known facts of this quaint little episode is given at the end of my story.'
