Name of previous owner on first endpage in ink. Helen Martins was born and spent her childhood in Nieu Bethesda, a small village not far from Graaff-Reinet. In the 1950's, after her parents deaths, she began to alter the interior of the house and to transform the yard into a sculpture garden. It later attaining national monument status.
