Antimima is placed in the Aizoaceae family. There are 99 recorded species in this genus. Several of them like Antimima lawsonii are referred to as cushion mesembs, referring to the compact little hills of small succulent leaves developing an elevation in the centre with long stems hidden below. The range of the genus Antimima spreads from southern Namibia southward to the Eastern Cape Province in South Africa; most are indigenous to South Africa. A few species are found in the Northern Cape Province and the Free State. Antimima dualis is a compact succulent that naturally grows in the Knersvlakte region of South Africa. It is very well suited to pot culture which adds to its ease of cultivation. Throughout the year it bears striking sessile magenta pink flowers with flowering peaking in winter. |
