ANTIQUE TUNSTALL ADAMS BLUE JASPERWARE BISCUIT JAR
Circa 1898 - 1904*
Jasperware is unglazed nonporous stoneware.
The name Jasperware originated from the fact that it closely resembled the hardness of the jasper stone.
The neoclassic relief design was hand applied by craftspeople and featured white cameo figures in relief.
The figures are fired right on to each piece for durability.
*After some research, we estimate this piece to date between 1898 and 1904. Please do your own research to verify if unsure.
The white relief figures are in excellent condition, as is the blue jasperware body.
There are no cracks and only one very small chip on the bottom rim.
The lid, handle and trim was originally silver plated, but most of it has since worn off.
The base metal looks like brass and actually has a nicer colour than the silver.
The inside of the jar is glazed white and in great condition.
The markings on the bottom read: "TUNSTALL ENGLAND - ADAMS - ESTABLISHED 1657".
It has a height of 14.5cm to the top rim and 23cm including the handle.
The opening is 9cm in diameter and the jar itself has a 15cm diameter at the widest part.
Any questions welcome!
