Antique 18ct Gold, Diamond, Pearl and Turquoise Locket Pendant

 

The large, antique, locket, pendant is probably French. It is inscribed in French at the back "Souvenir de mon pere; 25Aout; 1874; LT (In memory of my father; 25 August 1874; LT)". The pendant has a small, fixed loop at the top with a decorative hinged, V-shaped bale. The back opens to show two photo holders with glass covers. The front of the locket is tube-set with a central; oval cabochon polished turquoise (10mm x 6mm circa 1.5ct). The tube setting is decorated and surrounded by an applied open-work decoration set with six small rose-cut diamonds (circa 0.30ct in total). This, in turn is surrounded by a twist wire decoration which has a beaded finish. The locket has half marquise-shaped attachments top and bottom, and these are set with slightly oval cabochon polished turquoises (circa 0.5ct total). The bale, the half marquise-shaped elements, and the surround to the locket are all decorated with a total of twenty seed pearls. The seed pearls vary in size from circa 1mm to circa 4mm in diameter.

The locket is unmarked but it has been electronically scan tested and found to be 18ct yellow gold.
