ANTIQUE 18thC KANGXI PERIOD (1662-1722) CHINESE FINE PORCELAIN HAND PAINTED BLUE & WHITE PLATE Ref. P/46

A very fine early 18th Century Kangxi period (1662-1722) Chinese porcelain plate, decorated in underglaze blue with a central scene of a boy, holding a flower in his left hand, sitting on a terrace outside a building, with a large vase of flowers in the background. The rim is painted with flowering bushes and trees with four separate cartouches of flowers all within an outer patterned rim detail. The very edge of the rim is glazed in ochre. The underside of the plate is decorated with floral detail around an unglazed foot rim.
The porcelain is extremely fine and translucent, with the occasional age related rust spot visible to the surface. These are more visible to the underside where a firing flaw is also observed.
Look carefully at the glaze and you will see it is generally thick with numerous minute bubbles. This plate is likely to have been made for the general public, and, not for imperial use.
Chinese Kangxi blue and white porcelain is superb and rivals any other Chinese blue and white produced during the earlier periods. Technically, this period had come a long way with the ability to produce an excellent blue colour for the painting (so much admired by Europe, especially the Dutch), and, a slightly bluish white silky glaze.
The plate shows a charming sophisticated design possibly inspired by earlier Chinese periods.
It remains in good condition and measures 22.7cm in diameter. A very small chip to the outer edge has been repaired. Shine a strong light to the back of the plate and you will be able to identify it as it will not look translucent as the rest of the plate does. Guaranteed genuine, this plate even carries a 'BADA' stamp.
Please note, I am NOT a qualified archaeologist/antiquarian and the description I have given is based on research of the subject. This is a genuine antique. The classification of an 'antique' is that it should be 100 years old, OR MORE. There are many articles being offered as 'antiques' when, clearly, they are not.
