SIMON & RIVOLLET (1890-1920): The "SR" is the Simon & Rivollet company initials and was made in Paris France. The Simon et Rivollet Company was an old French toy manufacturer in the late 1800s and early 1900s. It had used lead casting in making older antique toys as the early toy making firms did. From 1890, they produced trinkets for the Paris tourist trade, such as miniatures of the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame. Model cars and tanks were produced between 1910 and 1914. By 1918 and the end of World War 1, the company had become known as Successor et Rivolet - the name change implies the death of Monsieur Simon, and the continuance of the company by his wife. THE TRAIL GETS COLD IN EUROPE AROUND 1920 BUT Some observers have noticed the similarity of craftsmanship and detail between these models and the early Tootsietoys from the USA, giving rise to speculation that the pattern maker may have left France for the United States.
