ON AUCTION IS A VERY SPECIAL ANTIQUE BROOCH. IT IS IN THE SHAPE OF TWO PINK GREYHOUNDS EACH WITH RED NOSES AND FANCY HAIRDO. MADE OF GALAITH WHICH IS A DURABLE OLD FORM OF PLASTIC.
 
THE ANTIQUE BROOCH FASTENS WITH A BRASS PIN AND C-CLASP. THIS BROOCH IS VERY ELEGANT - A RARE ART WORK HANDMADE IN AN EARLY PLASTIC MATERIAL.
 
THIS ART-DECO PERIOD FRENCH CARVED AND PINK-PAINTED BLACK-GALALITH FIGURAL BROOCH DEPICTS A PAIR OF LONG-LIMBED DOGS, WHICH LOOKS LIKE GREYHOUNDS.
 
The stylized design resembles Vogue-published fashion illustrations from the mid-1920s associated with Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel's revolutionary sleek "little black dresses". She had a fondness for greyhounds, evident in her embrace of the dog's sleek, elegant form, which was also a characteristic reflected in the Art Deco style of the era. In the 1920s while Art-Nouveau flowing forms transitioned into Art-Deco geometric designs, greyhounds, wolfhounds and whippets were embraced by French sculptors and painters for their exceptionally curvy bone structure.
